18C: Drouais Wallpaper

Description

It's been a very long time since I've posted anything! This is one of the things in a batch of portrait wallpapers I've fiddled with off and on for the past few months.

The Comte De Vaudreuil, by Francois Hubert Drouais, in 1758. I had this one as my own wallpaper for quite a while; I couldn't stop looking at all the DETAIL in the painting!! The map, the lace on his sleeves, the trimmings on his coat! And I'm convinced the fabric of the suit itself must have been velvet. :swoon:

Please Note: Yes, I'm aware how hi-res this image is, but please DO NOT steal it to use as a base for your own work. I've gone to a lot of work to edit this image, color, and otherwise alter it. If you're looking for an original of this painting, please try Wikipedia. Thanks!

This is gorgeous – I love the way you've cropped and angled it, giving full reign to all the leading lines of the maps/arms/clothing/furniture; they all point in different directions, which gives it wonderful tension and excitement. And there's something about velvet, isn't there? I love looking at the velvets in the work of Hans Holbein the Younger. =D
